My Dive into Vegan Hair, Skin, and Nails Vitamins

So, you’ve probably seen them all over the place, these vegan hair, skin, and nails vitamins. They promise the world, right? Glossy hair, glowing skin, nails like talons. Being on a plant-based diet, I figured, hey, maybe I’m missing out on some key stuff. My hair wasn’t exactly falling out in clumps, but it could’ve used a bit of a boost, and my nails were pretty prone to just giving up on life.

I decided to really commit to this, not just try a bottle for a week and call it quits. This was gonna be a proper experiment. I started digging around, looking for brands that weren’t packed with weird fillers. Wanted something clean, you know? Vegan certified, obviously. It took a while, sifting through all the marketing hype. Some of them had ingredients lists a mile long, stuff I couldn’t even pronounce.

Eventually, I settled on one. It seemed decent enough, had good reviews, the usual stuff. Phase one: The Commitment. I bought a three-month supply. That was the deal I made with myself. Take them every single day, no excuses. Put the bottle right by my kettle so I’d see it every morning when I made my tea.

Phase two: The Waiting Game. The first month? Honestly, nothing. Nada. Zip. I kept looking in the mirror, checking my hair, examining my nails like a detective. My skin was just… my skin. I almost gave up, thinking this was all just a load of rubbish. But I’d paid for three months, so I stuck with it.

Around the middle of the second month, I started to notice something. My nails. They weren’t peeling at the edges as much. They actually felt a bit… sturdier? It wasn’t like they suddenly became unbreakable, but there was a definite small improvement. I could grow them a tiny bit longer without them immediately snapping.

What about my hair? That was trickier. It didn’t suddenly get super thick or grow inches overnight. Maybe, and this is a big maybe, there was a little less hair in the shower drain. It’s so hard to tell with hair, isn’t it? It could have been wishful thinking. My skin? Honestly, no noticeable difference there. I was hoping for that “vegan glow” everyone talks about, but these pills didn’t magically deliver it. I think my diet and hydration levels have a much bigger say in that department.

Phase three: The Verdict. So, after the three months were up, what did I do? I didn’t rush out to buy another bottle. The nail improvement was nice, definitely the most obvious thing. But for the cost, and for the somewhat underwhelming results on the hair and skin front, I just wasn’t convinced it was a game-changer for me.

My big takeaway from this whole experiment? These things aren’t miracles in a bottle. If you’re seriously deficient in something, then yeah, maybe they’ll give you a noticeable boost. But for most of us just looking for a little extra oomph? I think focusing on a really good, varied vegan diet, plenty of water, and good sleep probably does 90% of the heavy lifting. I’m not saying they’re useless, not at all. My nails were proof of some effect. But it wasn’t the dramatic transformation some of the marketing makes you expect.

I sort of went back to basics after that. Making sure I’m hitting all my nutritional bases with food first. Seeds, nuts, tons of greens, legumes. It’s more effort than popping a pill, sure, but I feel like it’s a more solid foundation. Every now and then, if I feel like I’ve been slacking on my diet, I might consider a general vegan multivitamin, but those targeted hair, skin, and nail ones? I’ve been there, done that, and got the slightly stronger fingernails to prove it. Not a bad outcome, but not exactly life-altering either.
