Alright, so today I wanted to share something I’ve been doing for a while now – this whole rubbing nails together business. I know, I know, it sounds a bit out there, but hear me out. I’m just gonna tell you how I got into it and what my experience has been.
How I Stumbled Upon It
I first heard about this, I think, from an old auntie, or maybe it was one of those random articles you scroll past online. You know how it is. It was pitched as some ancient technique for, well, all sorts of things, but mostly hair. At the time, I was noticing a few more grey hairs than I liked, and my hair just felt a bit…meh. I wasn’t about to go crazy with expensive treatments, so when this zero-cost idea popped up, I thought, “Well, why not?” Couldn’t hurt, right?
Giving it a Go – The First Few Weeks
So, I started. It felt a bit odd at first, just sitting there, rubbing the fingernails of one hand against the other. I decided to do it for about 5 to 10 minutes a day. Usually, I’d do it while I was watching TV or just sitting and thinking. My family gave me a few funny looks, but hey, they get used to my quirks.
Honestly, for the first few weeks, maybe even a month or two, I didn’t notice a thing. Absolutely nothing. I was pretty close to just giving up, thinking it was just another one of those old wives’ tales. But I’m a stubborn sort, and since it wasn’t taking any real effort, I just kept at it. It became a bit of a habit, like fidgeting, but with a supposed purpose.
What I Think I Noticed (Eventually)
Now, this is where it gets interesting, at least for me. After, I’d say, a good three or four months of pretty consistent daily rubbing, I started to think my hair felt a bit thicker. And those new greys? They seemed to be coming in slower. I’m not saying it reversed anything major overnight, or that I suddenly got a lion’s mane, but there was a subtle shift. My nails themselves also seemed a bit shinier, but that could just be from the buffing action, I guess.
I specifically paid attention to the roots of my hair. I’d check in the mirror, under good light. It just seemed like the overall quality, the liveliness of my hair, had improved a tiny bit. Could it be a placebo? Entirely possible! I’m not a doctor or a scientist. I haven’t done any controlled experiments on myself. This is purely my anecdotal experience.
How I Do It
It’s super simple, really. This is my routine:
- I curl the fingers of both my hands inwards, like I’m making a loose fist, but with the palms facing each other.
- Then I rub the fingernails of one hand against the fingernails of the other. I leave the thumbs out; I heard you’re supposed to skip the thumbs.
- I do it quite vigorously, back and forth. You can feel a bit of warmth.
- I aim for about 10 minutes a day. Sometimes less if I’m busy, sometimes a bit more if I’m just zoning out.
My Takeaway
So, do I swear by it as a miracle cure? Nah. But has it become a part of my little self-care routine that costs nothing and, in my personal, subjective experience, seems to have had some minor positive effects? Yeah, I’d say so. I’m still doing it. It’s oddly relaxing now, a bit like a stress-relief thing too.
If you’re curious, maybe give it a try. Can’t promise you’ll see anything, but like I said, what’s the harm? It’s just one of those little things I picked up along the way, and for me, it feels like it’s been worth the tiny bit of daily effort. That’s my story with it, anyway!
