First thing, I accepted that some water weight is gonna happen – hormones are crazy. But I figured maybe stuffing my face with chips and chocolate wasn’t helping. I dug through my kitchen, tossed the obvious junk (mostly, kept one small chocolate bar, gotta be real), and hit the grocery store. My plan? Focus on whole stuff and stop eating like I was running a marathon before the cramps even started.

The Actual Eating Stuff I Tried

Starting Stronger in the Morning: Skipped my sugary cereal or just toast. Instead, I scrambled a couple of eggs. Threw in some spinach if I had it. Honestly? Kept me way fuller way longer. Didn’t feel like gnawing my arm off by 10:30 AM.

Water Became My Shadow: I carry a big bottle now. Like, everywhere. Aiming for at least 8 glasses. Sounds boring, yeah, but I swear it helped with the “OMG STARVING” feeling that wasn’t real hunger. Sometimes I just felt like chewing, so I grabbed…

  • Fridge Raid: Baby carrots, cucumber slices, sugar snap peas. Crunchy stuff.

  • If Craving Sweet: A banana, or one square of that dark chocolate I didn’t toss, savored super slow.

Kinda boring compared to cookies? Maybe. But I didn’t feel gross afterwards.

My Main Meals Got Smarter (Not Restrictive):

The last quarter? Carbs – brown rice, sweet potato, whole-wheat pasta. Kept me full without that insane carb-load I used to do.

The Carb Mindset Shift: Didn’t cut carbs, just swapped some. White bread? Nah, had wholegrain. Pasta? Measured a portion instead of a mountain. Potatoes? Sweet potatoes are cool. Carbs aren’t evil, but shoveling them mindlessly was my issue.

Sodium Sneakiness: Started glancing at labels more. Boxed stuff, sauces, canned soups? Loaded with salt. I didn’t ban ’em, just used less. Swapped soy sauce for low-sodium sometimes. Seems tiny, but less bloating feels good.

Cooking Became My Friend (Mostly): Tried cooking more at home. Easier to control what went in. Made big batches of that half-plate-veggies stuff for leftovers. Saved my butt on lazy/crampy days.

How It Actually Played Out & The Weigh-In

Was it perfect? Hell no. Ate pizza one night when PMS crankiness won. But mostly? Stuck pretty close. The big test was scale day right before my period started. Last month, that stupid scale was up nearly 5 lbs. This time? Only about 1.5 lbs up. And honestly, felt way less puffy and sluggish. The cravings were still there, but felt manageable, not like an emergency.

Forget extreme diets before my period. The stuff that worked? Simple swaps and paying a tiny bit more attention:

  • Choose carbs wisely, don’t banish them.
  • Prep snacks that fight the monster.
  • Watch the salt sneak attack.
  • Don’t beat myself up over pizza night.

It wasn’t magic. I still felt kinda crappy. But feeling slightly less like a water balloon and seeing a much smaller weight jump? Yeah, that’s a win I’m sticking with. Gotta keep these habits rolling into next month.
