My Insanity Last Night
Okay, last night was rough. Tossed and turned forever. Finally sat up around 1 AM, stared at the dark ceiling, and thought, “Right. Time to actually try those natural sleep things I keep reading about.” Decided on three everyone claims actually work. No more putting it off.

First up? Ditched the stupid screens. Seriously, I spend all day glued to my phone and laptop. Last thing before lights out? Yep, more scrolling. Dumb. So, around 9 PM – a full hour earlier than usual – I just shut them down completely. Felt weird! Like, what do I do with my hands? Picked up this old paperback collecting dust instead. Felt nice actually. Less “buzz” in my head.
Second step: Fixed the temperature. My bedroom? Basically a cave. I always thought colder was better for sleep, but apparently not freezing. So, after closing my stupid laptop, I messed with the thermostat. Pushed it up just a smidge, from Arctic Tundra to slightly less freezing. Maybe around 68 degrees? Honestly, just guessed. Also swapped my thin summer blanket for a real, proper winter one. Felt instantly cozier.
Third thing: The chamomile tea thing. I’m not a big herbal tea guy, usually more coffee, but desperate times. Boiled some water around 9:30 PM. Stuck a plain chamomile tea bag in my biggest mug. No fancy honey or lemon, just the tea. Let it steep forever, like 10 minutes. Gulped it down while forcing myself to read that book instead of checking Twitter. Tasted… fine? Like warm, grassy water. But kinda calming.
The Actual Doing-Nothing Part
So, with screens off, room warmer, warm tea sloshing in my belly, I hit the pillows around 10:15 PM. The usual drill is my brain kicks into overdrive replaying every awkward conversation I’ve ever had. But last night? Not gonna lie, it was different.
Here’s what happened:

- Didn’t count sheep or do breathing exercises. Just laid there.
- Thoughts were quieter. Didn’t zoom around as much. The book probably helped occupy my brain earlier.
- Started feeling that cozy, heavy feeling sooner than usual. That warm tea and warm room combo? Legit relaxing.
- Next thing I knew, I was blinking at my alarm clock. No tossing till 3 AM. No staring into the abyss. Just… asleep. Passed out maybe around 11 PM? Woke up feeling less like a zombie for once.
Honestly shocked. Usually, “natural” stuff feels like wishful thinking. Maybe it was just the combo? Maybe the boring book helped? Whatever it was, it actually worked last night. Felt so much better this morning. Not magic, but way better than normal. Definitely trying again tonight.
